Course Overview

The aim of this course is to provide a practical and theoretical skill set for staff wishing to assess the competence of responders and managers in dealing with incidents and give a detailed insight into setting up and facilitating an assessment session.

Delegates will explore what competence is, the process of facilitating a competence assessment, and the skills an assessor requires.

The course was specifically developed to address a gap in our clients' requirements, as it was observed that the existing assessor qualifications did not adequately cater to the practical assessment and facilitation of simulations.

This comprehensive course covers not only the fundamental principles of assessment but also provides practical guidance on various aspects of conducting effective assessment sessions. Participants will learn how to set up an assessment room, conduct live assessments, and effectively handle subsequent issues such as assessment policies and appeals. The primary objective is to ensure objective assessment against recognized standards.

It is suitable for teaching individuals how to assess the competence of responders from any agency. This is made possible by incorporating standards for emergency response, such as the civil contingency standards CCAG 1, 2, and 3.
